How PDF Compression Works

Each page is rendered to a canvas at the selected resolution, then exported as a compressed JPEG image and assembled into a new PDF using pdf-lib. This approach works especially well for scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs.

Low compression

Best for professional documents where text sharpness and diagram clarity matter.

Medium compression

Good default. Reduces size noticeably while keeping the content easily readable.

High compression

Maximum size reduction. Suitable for scanned docs or drafts where quality is secondary.

Note: compression converts pages to raster images, so text selection inside the output PDF will not be available.
